San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. hosted his 3rd Annual Backpack Giveaway at Walter Zimmerman Elementary School this week, providing every student on campus with a brand-new backpack, school supplies, and a T-shirt to kick off the new school year with confidence and support.
In addition to supplying over 600 students with essential back-to-school items, Supervisor Baca presented a $5,000 check to Walter Zimmerman Elementary to further invest in the success of local youth.
“As a former educator, I saw how many students felt different simply because their families couldn’t afford school supplies,” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. “This giveaway helps level the playing field—so every student can walk into school feeling confident, prepared, and just like everybody else.”
The event brought together a wide range of County departments and community partners to connect students and families with important resources, including public health services and educational programs. Children also had the chance to interact with first responders and explore public safety vehicles.
Supervisor Baca was joined by Assemblymember Robert Garcia, San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey, and Colton Joint Unified School District Representatives, all of whom expressed strong support for the students and families of Bloomington.
The annual backpack giveaway has become a beloved tradition in the Fifth District, demonstrating Supervisor Baca’s continued commitment to education, equity, and family-centered service.
