The following highlights key projects and initiatives approved at the most recent Board of Supervisors meeting, that directly impact the Fifth District.
Agenda Item #4 – Investing in Public Safety in San Bernardino
Following the burglary of KKC Little League and concerns raised by local residents, Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. is investing $75,000 in Fifth District discretionary funding to help the City of San Bernardino expand its public safety camera system. The funding will support the purchase and installation of wireless surveillance cameras to strengthen public safety and provide additional resources to help protect neighborhood spaces and the surrounding community.
Agenda Item #35 – Expanding Adult Literacy Services Across San Bernardino County
San Bernardino County is accepting a $99,132 grant from the California State Library to continue providing free adult literacy services at 16 County Library branches, including Rialto Branch Library. The program offers one-on-one tutoring and resources to help adults and seniors strengthen their reading, writing, and basic literacy skills. Last year, the program served 283 adult learners with support from 125 tutors who provided nearly 3,800 hours of instruction.
Agenda Item #61 – Little Third Street Property Acquisition for Future Affordable Housing
San Bernardino County is acquiring eight vacant parcels totaling approximately 1.28 acres north of Little Third Street and west of Little Tippecanoe Avenue for potential future affordable housing. The $536,100 acquisition will help preserve land for future housing opportunities in the Little Third community. No specific housing development has been approved at this time.
