The following highlights key projects and initiatives approved at the most recent Board of Supervisors meeting, that directly impact the Fifth District.
Agenda Item #5 -Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. is investing $300,000 in Fifth District Discretionary Funding to support the replacement of the baseball field turf at San Bernardino Valley College, helping provide student-athletes with a safer, modernized facility to train, compete, and succeed.
Agenda Item #33 – The County is providing $250,000 to the San Bernardino International Airport Authority to support two infrastructure improvement projects at San Bernardino International Airport: a new Airport Monument Entry and the Airport Supply Chain Safety Corridor. The funding will help improve safety, accessibility, and the overall appearance of the airport, while also supporting the movement of freight, commercial vehicles, and airport operations.
Agenda Item #53 – The County is taking action to reduce heavy truck traffic through residential areas of Bloomington by establishing a new weight restriction on Santa Ana Avenue between Cedar Avenue and the Rialto city boundary, approximately 700 feet east of Cactus Avenue. Commercial vehicles weighing more than 14,000 pounds (7 tons) will be prohibited from using this stretch of Santa Ana Avenue.
Agenda Item #55 – The County is moving forward with the next phase of the State Street Widening Project in Muscoy, covering approximately 0.61 miles of State Street between Adams Street and Darby Street. Improvements will include widening the west side of State Street, adding a painted median for safer left turns, paved shoulders, curbs and gutters, driveway approaches, and new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps. The project will also rehabilitate pavement on both sides of State Street and add supplemental street lighting along the east side.
Agenda Item #65 – The County is partnering with Colton Joint Unified School District (CJUSD) to make it easier for eligible students and their families to access CalFresh benefits and free or reduced-price school meals. The agreement allows CJUSD and the County to securely match student information with CalFresh and CalWORKs eligibility records. Eligible students can be directly certified for free or reduced-price school meals, reducing paperwork and barriers for families.
