The following highlights key projects and initiatives approved at the most recent Board of Supervisors meeting, that directly impact the Fifth District.
Agenda Item #4 – New Shade Structures Coming to Paakuma’ Park
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved a $206,000 investment to support the design and construction of new playground shade structures at Paakuma Park in partnership with the San Bernardino City Unified School District.
This investment will help provide much-needed shade and shelter for students, families, and community members, making the park more comfortable and accessible throughout the year.
Agenda Item #38 – Eisenhower High School Baseball Field Coming Soon
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved the redirection of $396,247 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) project savings to support improvements at Eisenhower High School’s baseball field in Rialto.
Savings from the completed Rialto High School Baseball Field Lighting Project will be reinvested into the Eisenhower project to cover unforeseen electrical infrastructure improvements needed to complete the modernization of the facility.
These improvements include upgraded field lighting, new bleachers, a dugout, a higher backstop, a new scoreboard, ADA accessibility upgrades, and other enhancements that will provide student-athletes and the community with a safer, modern baseball facility.
Agenda Item #47 – $1.2 Million Investment Supports Adult Education Through County Libraries
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors accepted a $1.2 million gift from the Inland Empire Community Foundation to support the County Library’s Career Online High School program.
This generous investment will help provide eligible adult residents with the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certification through the library. By establishing a dedicated fund, the program is expected to continue serving residents for an estimated 20 years, creating pathways to education, workforce development, and long-term economic opportunity throughout San Bernardino County.
Agenda Item #74 – Coming Soon: The Glen Helen Parkway Bridge Over Cajon Wash
Progress continues on the new Glen Helen Parkway Bridge in the Devore area! Once completed, the new four-lane bridge will improve regional connectivity, ease traffic flow, and provide better emergency access for residents and travelers.
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors recently approved additional design support to keep construction moving forward as crews address unforeseen site conditions. The project remains on track for completion in late 2027, bringing safer, more reliable transportation infrastructure to our community.
Agenda Item #85 – Continuing Education Programs for Incarcerated Individuals
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved a continued partnership with Five Keys Charter School to provide educational programs for individuals in County detention facilities—at no cost to the County.
Through this partnership, participants have access to programs including high school diploma completion, GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Adult Basic Education. These educational opportunities help prepare individuals for successful reentry by building the skills needed for employment, continued education, and long-term success after incarceration.
