Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. proudly joined community members, city leaders, and local athletes to celebrate the reopening of Guadalupe Field, a long-awaited revitalization project that restores one of the Westside’s oldest and most beloved parks.
Guadalupe Field, a 2.25-acre park, has long served as a gathering place for San Bernardino families with its baseball field, picnic tables, and barbeque areas. However, years of deterioration and public safety challenges had taken a toll on the park.
“The work that has been done to this field has been nothing short of a miracle,” said Westside Pony League President, Brandon Ponce. “My family has been involved in this league for over 30 years, and I have seen the ups and downs, but this project brings a new boost of energy to our community. I have never been more excited for what this will bring.”
Thanks to $995,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, the park has undergone a major transformation. Renovations included upgrades to the existing building and field, installation of new lighting, replacement of fencing, and the addition of modern amenities such as bleachers and a scoreboard.
For Supervisor Baca, the reopening carried deep personal significance. Growing up, he spent countless hours playing at Guadalupe Field with his father, which is why the park holds such a special place in his heart.
“I grew up playing here with my father, and I know firsthand how much this space means to the community,” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. That’s why I am proud to have invested in its future—so that children today and generations to come will have a safe place to play, grow, and create lasting memories.”
As part of the celebration, Supervisor Baca presented a check to the Westside Pony League to support the young athletes who bring the field to life.
