San Bernardino County officials, alongside community leaders and key partners, celebrated the grand reopening of Fire Station 226 with a ribbon cutting ceremony, in the Del Rosa neighborhood. The completely remodeled, state-of-the-art facility marks a major investment in public safety and emergency services for the region.
Originally built in the 1950s, Fire Station 226 no longer met modern building codes or the operational demands of today’s firefighting services. Thanks to a $10.2 million renovation project, the station has been fully upgraded to support enhanced emergency response capabilities for the City of San Bernardino and surrounding communities.
“This project reflects our shared commitment to investing in public safety and ensuring our firefighters have the modern tools they need to serve our residents,” said San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. “
The success of this project is due to the strong collaboration between San Bernardino County Fire, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and the City of San Bernardino.
The total project budget was nearly $10.2 million, with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians contributing $3.5 million and San Bernardino County Fire contributing $6.7 million. This partnership highlights the power of public-private collaboration in delivering meaningful infrastructure that benefits the entire community.
“This fire station will not only improve emergency response times but also stands as a symbol of what we can achieve through our relationships,” said County Fire Chief, Dan Munsey.
The newly upgraded station includes improved facilities for fire personnel, modern technology such as the Westnet alerting system, and a layout designed to enhance response efficiency and firefighter safety.
