San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. joined the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, San Bernardino City Unified School District, the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, elected officials, and community partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Fire Station 227, the first fire station to be built on school district property in San Bernardino County.
Located at the southeast corner of North Mountain View Avenue and West 38th Street, the new $13.77 million station represents an innovative partnership that will improve emergency response times while strengthening collaboration between public safety agencies and local schools.
“This project has been a long time coming, and while we faced plenty of challenges along the way, we never stopped fighting because this community deserves it,” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. “Fire Station 227 will improve emergency response, provide our firefighters with a modern facility, and make north San Bernardino safer for generations to come.”
The new station will feature three apparatus bays for fire engines, an ambulance, and a future ladder truck, along with modern living quarters, administrative offices, firefighter wellness amenities, and supporting site improvements. Once completed, Fire Station 227 will enhance fire protection and emergency medical services for residents while providing firefighters with a state-of-the-art facility designed to support their mission.
“Fire Station 227 is a testament to what persistence and partnership can accomplish,” said Fire Chief Gary Jager. “Supervisor Baca has been a true champion for this community and for public safety, and his commitment helped make this long-awaited project a reality for both our residents and our firefighters.”
“This project reflects what is possible when schools and public agencies work together with a shared vision,” said Terry Comnick, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services for the San Bernardino City Unified School District. “We’re proud to partner on the County’s first fire station built on school property, creating a resource that will strengthen public safety while fostering meaningful connections between our students, first responders, and the community.”
Construction is expected to be completed in late 2027.
Supervisor Baca thanked the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, San Bernardino City Unified School District, the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, the Board of Supervisors, and all project partners whose collaboration made this milestone possible.
