On a bright and beautiful day at Glen Helen Regional Park, San Bernardino County Regional Parks, Probation, Children and Family Services, and Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. came together to host the 4th Annual Fishing Day, welcoming over 140 youth and families for a day of outdoor adventure, learning, and fun.
This special event is designed to give at-risk youth the opportunity to connect with nature, learn how to fish, and experience the joy of being outdoors. The annual event has grown in participation and impact each year, offering children hands-on fishing experiences—from identifying different fish species and selecting bait, to casting lines and learning how to clean and prepare their catch.
“With so many kids attached to screens these days, it’s important to give them opportunities to enjoy the outdoors,” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. “This day is all about giving our youth a positive, educational, and fun experience. It gives them a chance to step away from their devices and create memories with their families in a beautiful setting.”
Throughout the day, participants were supported by caring volunteers, mentors, and County staff who helped guide them through each part of the fishing experience, encouraging confidence, patience, and curiosity.
Congratulations to Our Amazing Winners!
The day was completed by proudly recognizing several standout participants with special awards:

Idan – First Fish Caught and Most Fish Caught

Zedekiah – Heaviest Fish and Biggest Fish Caught

Tadeo – Smallest Fish Caught
Supervisor Baca expressed his deep gratitude to all the families, volunteers, and County partners who helped make the event a success. The 4th Annual Fishing Day reflects his continued commitment to uplifting and supporting the youth of the Fifth District through meaningful, community-focused programs.
